I usually review the video after casting awhile or fishing. The first month I casted I used it over and over to get better each day. After about two months I could cast 40ft with a 10yr old fly? rod with a nearly worn out reel. Just enough to get me started fishing and to control my casts. Also I live in Traverse City, where I heard there was a FFF master residing. He works at our Orvis shop. I just recently bought the rest of the video because of how useful it is and clear and do more casts.

All these videos have been a great help to me learning how to cast. I just began this summer fly fishing and the results I made were great. These are excellent videos for explaining how to do basic casts. Not only that you know more than some of the guys at the local fly shop how to cast. One of them gave me a short lesson and said I was an intermediate caster just because I studied your instructions with personal notes to reinforce participation with the video and buy an new fly rod.? Thank you!

You'll need to ensure you're developing enough line? speed to kick things around, and yes, stop earlier and more abruptly than you usually would. You're correct in that the overpowered curve is exactly the same as a tuck cast - it's just done in the horizontal plane rather than the vertical. Practice with a short leader!

Stop early and hard. And if you can, immediately pull back on the rod tip. A shorter leader will also help, and of course if your fly has any weight in it that's really? going to help kick everything around as well. For a start try practicing with a short heavy leader, 6 - 9 ft

Hello again Bumcast :)I feel I need some help with this cast. I've been trying to repeat it one whole afternoon, I didn't get a single curve! For the overpowered curve, although I was double-hauling, however, I didn"t manage to form a curve with my line, does that mean that I should stop my rod much earlier, a bit like for the tuck cast, in addition to adding a strong? haul on the front cast?

like the video BUT cant beleive after first thing the guy mentioned was SAFETY and then there he is casting away with NO SUN GLASSES ON ! , I made? that mistake ONCE and got a hook imbeded about 1/2" from my eye ...NEVER again ALWAYS wear glasses !!!!!!!!

Great video! But you forgot the number one wind cast! We use it with the 50mph gale force winds on the plains...stand with back to wind and simply flip the fly into the air the wind will? push your line across the entire river :)

Greetings Carl, Could you please clarify the roll vs switch cast? From this fragment of your DVD I'd say the casts you perform on the river are switch casts and what you practice on grass is roll casting as I? see it. For me the difference between the two is the size of D-loop, the amount of line stick and pace. Simply, switch is bigger D-loop, little line stick and air-born forward cast. Roll is a lot of line stick, small D-loop and water-born forward. Will appreciate your comment.

WOW, JUST WOW!!! I've just bought my first fly rig & looking for instructional vids I found yours. You're an insperation for me master? my next form of fishing. I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay and fished all the ways you can without fly fishing. I now live in the mountain of West Virginia and there is a lot of streams around here and I figured it's time to expand my fishing horizons. I have never payed much attention to fly fishing, your video has shown me the potental rewards. Thank you.
