Soooo sorry my iPhone was being a dick & I accidentally flagged the video. If I could take it back I would. I'm a drummer & have been playing guitar for a few years now as a secondary & never? really started using my pinky till now. This should help isolate it. Try it slowly and watch your pinky. If it flies off, stop yourself. In time, you won't even think about it. I? think it's okay if it flies a little, as long as your fingers are relaxed when not in use. When the fret hand disengages, it should be a movement of relaxation rather than flexing. Only when fretting a note should the finger muscle engage.

but having a small pinky makes it really hard for them to be independent as my pinky feels really different compared to my other fingers-? its really twitchy and won't play as smoothly as my other fingers :( will this fix over time or am i doomed for the rest of my life?

That's very common. You can take your hand away from the guitar and try to move each finger independently to figure out what's causing the pinky movement. Remember your ring finger can NEVER? be totally independent, so moving it even when the pinky is relaxed, it still may move...THAT'S OK!

Yes. You barely have to press the string to get a clean sound (unless it's a steel string) Getting a clean sound is? more about placing the finger as close to the fret as possible. Play with different pressures on the string and see how the sound comes out.

I treat this just like any other strength exercise. When I have a student that gets overly tense, I make them relax and shake out their hand. Just make sure you don't overdo it to the point where? your hand cramps up. Long term you want your hand to be as balanced as possible.
