both dogs and cats claim humans as their own, dogs consider us more thier children or? sibling, wheras a cat considers us property. Both can be equally protective, and that cat doesnt like the dog, or it wouldnt have acted like that. jsut because animals cohabitate in the same house, doesnt mean they have to like each other. ive lived 45 years, and all of my animals acted differently. i had one dog, my mother did everything for her, but she still wouldnt allow her near her puppies. go figure!

Don't get me wrong, cats are cleaner, low maintenance, and cuddly, but trying to give cats credit for EVERYTHING is unfair to dogs. Both have good and bad points, and neither has more of one than the other. Some people? favor the good points of a cat over the good points of a dog and vice versa- but that's an opinion.

Actually I have both. Cats take longer to trust you, but once they have it they keep coming back no matter what you do. With a dog who gives more trust sooner- it could take months for the dog to even want to be close and have interactions with you. I can say as a proud owner of BOTH, that dogs ARE more protective. They're equally great pets, but when it comes to loyalty, love, and protection, dogs will win hands down. A dog will be nice? to strangers, but the love of a pet dog is unbeatable.
